Max
Hirsch established the
“Saxonian Glass Factory” in 1879 in Radeberg and manufactured hollow and
press glass with presses imported from the USA.
Max
Hirsch was the brother-in-law of
August Walther. On Max
Hirsch’s
Walther
merged with Saxonian Glass company in 1932 and became “Saxonian Glass Factory
August Walther & sons AG”, or “Saschsische Glasfabrik August Walther and
Sohne AG”.
After
WW2 the company was nationalised and became “VEB Saschenglas”.
The company is still in business today. “Walther-Glas” in Bad Driburg
produces pressed domestic and giftware, as well as pressed glass articles for
the car industry. They export glass giftware worldwide and you can find them in
the UK, sometimes with the name "Mikasa".
